Abstract

Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) is grounded in radical behaviorism and emphasizes identifying and modifying environmental variables to drive sustainable organizational success.  OBM is a subdiscipline of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which applies behavioral principles to enhance individual and group performance in business, industry, government, and human service settings.
Workplace behavior is shaped by the surrounding conditions, and long-term effectiveness requires a scientific approach to behavioral assessment and intervention. Managing results alone is reactive and ineffective; instead, organizations must proactively define desired outcomes and the behaviors that drive them. By implementing behavior-based systems, organizations can optimize performance, improve efficiency, and ensure long-term success.
This presentation will provide an overview of behavioral systems analysis, performance management, behaviorally based safety and behaviorally based leadership.  This presentation aims to introduce and examine key concepts in OBM and foster the opportunity for the audience to further explore workplace efficiency, safety, and leadership effectiveness from a behaviorally based model.

Learning Objectives

  1. Attendees will be able to compare and contrast the steps of implementing OBM interventions with the steps of implementing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  2. Attendees will be able to identify four subdomains of Organizational Behavior Management.
  3. Attendees will be able to describe the three levels of analysis within Behavior Systems Analysis.
  4. Attendees will be able to describe the importance of developing a Behavior Based Leadership style.

Abstract

Balancing employee well-being with optimal organizational outcomes is one of the most complex challenges for a leader. Many organizations providing services to individuals with disabilities fail to allocate sufficient resources to support their employees. However, one of the most critical areas of analysis is understanding how staff well-being influences client outcomes.
In recent years, rehabilitation agencies have increasingly focused on achieving outstanding results through teamwork and collaboration between leaders and employees. However, further research is needed to help leaders effectively implement antecedent and consequent interventions that sustain high-quality services.
The study presented in this session explores the use of behavior-based leadership strategies to ensure consistent session start times, accurate data collection, and structured therapeutic environments. A multiple-baseline design was implemented across behaviors in three employees. The findings indicate that a full intervention package—including modeling, performance feedback, and tangible reinforcement—enabled all three participants to meet mastery criteria.
This presentation will focus on the practical implementation of antecedent and consequent interventions based on assessment results.

Key Content Area: Leadership and Organizational Culture

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the role of positive leadership in delivering high-quality OBM services.
  2. Differentiate between antecedent and consequent OBM interventions.
  3. Implement an intervention package incorporating modeling and verbal feedback.
